Teen Programs

YA programs are open to teens in 6th-12th grade.

We usually have something going on each week.  Many of the programs are ones that are suggested by the YA Council members, so if you have a program idea, let the YA Librarian know, and join the YA Council if you would like to get more involved!

Our weekly teen programs are drop-in, which means you don’t need to register – just come when you can. If you’re active on Facebook, like the West Chicago Public Library page to get ongoing library news in your feed. If you have questions about any programs, don’t hesitate to call us at (630)-231-1552 x121.

If you’re in the library on a Monday or Tuesday evening, there will most likely be a teen event going on in our big program space, that’s the first room to the right of our main library entrance. We also have special events for teens like the Smash Bros. Tournament on other days, like Saturday.

If you’re in the library on a Sunday evening, it’s already closed!  What were you thinking?  You might have to learn to like the taste of books in order to stay alive until the library reopens Monday morning.

Looking for a place to volunteer? Many of these programs are ones that are suggested by teens like you on the YA Council, so if you have a program idea, let the Teen Services Librarian know, and join the YA Council if you would like to get more involved!  More info on the YA Council can be found here, so make like a tree and hop over there!

Well yeah, all our teen programs have snacks but this is the one where it’s all about the snacks and you get to be a snack critic. Who needs a meal when you can sample earth’s mightiest snacks?

Each month we’ll feature a different country like Indonesia, Poland, or Narnia (ok, sorry Narnia, no make believe countries).  It’ll be a blind taste test where we’ll tell you what the snacks are at the end and we’ll tally your scores for each snack rating them 1 to 10 to find the best!

In consideration for being permitted to participate in the Snack Testers program, I understand, agree, and acknowledge that this program may contain foods and treats that may contain allergens such as dairy, eggs, wheat, nuts, and other allergens.  I further acknowledge and represent that I know my allergies and have disclosed my allergens to Library, and that I hereby release and discharge the Library and its Trustees, Officers, Employees, or Agents from any and all claims, injuries, causes of action, losses, attorneys’ fees, costs, or other damages resulting from, arising out of, or relating in any way to my participation in the program.

Get together with other gamers to play co-op or competitively. Show off your skills or learn how to play a new game from players like you.  The library supplies the console and games, you supply the fingers and thumbs.

Video Game Club has a Playstation 5 and Nintendo Switch that are ready to play the latest and greatest games. If we don’t have that game you are currently playing or that game you’re dying to play with other players, let the Video Game Club librarian know and we might be able to purchase it for the room.  The library can purchase games E – T for Teen.

TNT – Get ready for some old school tabletop gaming with treats and drinks provided! Play a character in an immersive role-playing experience, like Dungeon and Dragons.  Outsmart your opponents in a game of strategy or chance, like Uno and Codenames.

All games will be provided by the library and game instructions will be given where needed. The library has a great collection of games from classics (chess) to new favorites (Exploding Kittens).  And if you don’t see a game you’d like to play in our collection, let a librarian know and we’ll get it if we can!

YA Cafe has many offerings.  For each session, we’ll have a new activity promoting creativity, positivity, and community. Even if this session of YA Cafe isn’t quite up your alley, the other ones may be, so make sure to check our calendar regularly or contact the Young Adult librarian to stay current with what’s happening for teens at WCPLD.
