Welcome All Gamers

Do you love games? We love games!

We play video games all the time and it never affects our ability to focus on other tasks. Wait, what was I doing here? That’s right, we play video games all the time and it never affects our ability to focus on other tasks. We have all sorts of games for the major consoles, ranging from E to Teen ratings.  Here at the library, we play video games all the time, and it definitely never affects our ability to focus on other tasks.

We do also like disconnecting from screens and switch to acoustic gaming (you know, tabletop games).  We strive to honor the dying wishes of the Backstreet Boys and vow to ‘quit playing games with their hearts,’ so we use our hands and meet with friends at the library instead!

Gaming Events

Hop on over to our Events and Programs page to join gaming sessions in our bigly large main program space. Feed the gaming beast by dropping into Video Game Club, Tabletop ‘N’ Treats and the occasional Smash Bros. Tournament (the Hyrule fight club is hard to beat)!

Video Games To Take Home

Yes, that’s right!  With an up-to-date library card, you could check out games from our collection and bring them home, including some of the newest releases! If you’re under 18 and have never had a library card, you’ll need a parent with you to help sign you up for a library card.  If you just need to renew your library card because it‘s old and smells like that open Lunchable at the bottom of your backpack, all you need is your student ID.

Games you could take home from the library can be found on both the first floor in the Youth department and upstairs in the Teen areas of the library. We have games rated E10+ and T for Teen upstairs in the Teen area but you might find an E rated game you want on the shelf in the downstairs Youth area.

We have a selection of games for:

Nintendo –  Wii,  WiiU, DS, 3dS and Switch

Playstation – 3, 4 and 5

Xbox – 360, One and X

Warning: Don’t attempt to play any of these games on the wrong console or on your cat.  Playing video games on your cat won’t end well for anyone invovled.

If you don’t find what you’re looking for on the shelf, ask a librarian.  We can probably get it for you from another library, or you could suggest it as a purchase for our always growing collection. We’re always looking for video game recommendations for our collection, (rated T and under)!

Play Video Games while in the library

The Teen Gaming Station has all the latest and greatest Nintendo Wii and Switch games.  Located on the 2nd floor, the gaming station is open to teens in 6th grade and up.  If there’s two or more groups that want to play at the same time, we’ll have the first group stop after 2 hours.  Or, it could be a good chance to make new friends. BGFF – Best Gaming Friends Forever!

Talk to any librarian on the 2nd floor and they’ll get you set up on the gaming station.  You must use your own valid WCPLD library card but only one player in the group needs to show a library card. If you are playing with a friend or sibling not yet in 6th grade, you can both use the youth department gaming station downstairs.

If you have any questions about what the library could do for you, please contact us using the linked form, by giving us a call, sending us an email (we’re old, alright?), or by dropping into the library! You could also DM us on TikTok and we’ll try to get back to you when we can.

The Gaming Rules

The YA Gaming Station is open to teens in 6th grade and up, on a first come, first served basis, with a 2-hour limit. You must use your own valid WCPLD library card. One library card checks out 2 Wiimotes or 1 Wii game pad. If you are playing with a friend or sibling not yet in 6th grade, you can both use the youth department gaming station downstairs.

Video Game Club

Come play with gamers of all kinds at Gamer’s Haven, a drop-in program for 6th-12th grade students. We have Wii, WiiU, PS3, PS4, XBox One, Nintendo Switch, and all kinds of card and board games. We play from 4-6pm most Mondays. Snacks and competition provided.

Board Games

There’s tabletop and board games waiting for you to play in the library anytime the library is open. Ask a librarian on the 2nd floor, and they’ll retrieve a game for you. If we don’t have the board game you’re looking for, we might be able to buy it for your next visit.

Sorry, these games can’t be played outside the library.  Although, a game of Jumanji might transport you to another world, no cap.

New: Nintendo Switch For In-House Checkout

You can now check out a Nintendo Switch (comes with 2 joycons and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate) with a valid library card. Just like our WiiU gaming station, it is available for teens in 6th grade and up, on a first come, first served basis, with a 2-hour limit. You must use your own valid WCPLD library card. If you are playing with a friend or sibling not yet in 6th grade, you can both use the youth department Nintendo Switch downstairs. You can use other games with the Switch if you check them out on your library card.

Wiiu In-House Gaming Station

Check out controllers with your library card to play on our YA gaming station on the TV in the YA area. The gaming station has: Super Smash Bros., Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, Minecraft, Wii Sports Club (select sports), LEGO Marvel’s Avengers, and LEGO Batman.
