About Us

The West Chicago Public Library District (WCPLD) is a tax-levying local governmental body dedicated to serving the people of the district by providing educational and entertainment resources and support while leading local engagement.

The district serves a population of over 28,928 throughout the West Chicago, Winfield, Wheaton, and general Western DuPage County area. The WCPLD employs 34 people including 12 librarians with either a Masters in Library Science (MLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an American Library Association accredited University program.

Here at WCPLD, we are much more than a building with books: we are professionals, dedicated to helping you make the most of the public resources we offer, and we enthusiastically support efforts to educate, entertain, and engage with our community. To find out more about what we stand for, check out our Strategic Plan to see what we’re working on for you and all of our patrons!

These days, public places where people can simply exist without having to spend money are few and far between, but your public library remains a bastion of intellectual freedom, curiosity, and community for all. We are a fine-free library, furthering our mission to provide free access to powerful resources and tools at no additional cost to our community. You are always welcome at the library, and we will never charge you to be here. Whether you are coming to use our resources, hoping to borrow some technology or tool, looking for help from a qualified professional, or if you just want a place to be, the West Chicago Public Library is here for you.

We are located at 118 W. Washington St. in downtown West Chicago. The building was completed and opened to the community in 1993, but the history of libraries (and WCPLD) in West Chicago (previously known as Junction/Turner Junction) goes back well over 100 years. Learn more about the library of West Chicago’s past on Our Story page.

WCPLD offers library services to Western DuPage patrons Monday through Thursday, 9 am to 9 pm, Friday and Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm, and Sundays from 1 pm to 5 pm. During the summer, the library is closed on Sundays. For more information about our hours of operations and scheduled days the library is closed, check out our hours & closings page.

Does our mission resonate with you? We are always looking for new people to join our devoted team. Read more about employment at WCPLD to see if there is a place for you in our ranks!
