Summer Library Challenge 2024

The weather is warmer, the sun is out, and so is school! That means it’s time for Summer Reading!

The West Chicago Public Library District is excited to present a new experience for our patrons called the Summer Library Challenge. While we have been staunch advocates of Summer Reading Programs for decades, we wanted to give our program a new twist that encourages West Chicagoans to use more of the powerful free resources and fun special collections we have here at the library. The Summer Library Challenge will run from June 10th through August 10th. There will be a drawing for a prize for those who register and start by July 1st. Each department is offering other incentives as well, for more information, contact the staff from each department!

In years past, the Summer Reading Programs in West Chicago were only about logging how much you had read. This year, we have Bingo cards for each age group that will allow you to complete the WCPLD Summer Challenge not just by reading, but by using many of the other wonderful resources waiting for you at your library! You could complete a bingo square by playing a game, borrowing a movie, using a database, or even working with our librarians. There are more ways than ever to participate, and possibly take home a prize! Check out the accordion below to see the different Bingo cards for each age range.

Speaking of prizes, each department will have some completion prizes, but you could earn a chance to win an incredible prize simply by registering for the WCPLD Summer Library Challenge and doing the first Bingo square! We have compiled a great summer prize kit that will help you make the most of the good weather that includes a membership for 4 to the Morton Arboretum. By simply registering on Beanstack and digitally logging 5 hours read before July 1st, you will be entered for a chance to win:

  • A one year membership for 4 to the Morton Arboretum ($150+ value!)
  • A retro Igloo cooler
  • 4 Cooler ice packs
  • A picnic dinner set for 4
  • Picnic blanket
  • Find & Seek Card Game

Make sure you register on Beanstack and log 5 hours of reading on your digital log before July 1st to get your chance to win this prize. In each of the sections below, you will also find more instructions for getting started with the digital Summer Challenge logs. Check out the paper logs below to see what kind of challenge you might expect, then click the button below to register on Beanstack today!
